Aqueous inkjet printing is suitable for coated photo paper, PP, and short-term display materials. It delivers refined color, but material compatibility is limited by the coating. For outdoor use, aqueous inkjet printing usually needs waterproof materials and lamination. It is not suitable for direct exposure to long periods of rain and frequent cleaning

Solvent or eco-solvent inkjet printing is common for PVC stickers, vehicle graphics, and signage output. The ink bonds more deeply with the material surface, making it more suitable for outdoor stability than typical aqueous systems. On the production line, heavy-ink graphics are often left to sit for 24 to 48 hours before lamination so the solvent can evaporate more completely. UV inkjet printing cures with UV light, so the ink layer dries quickly. It can print on boards, transparent sheets, glass-related applications, and can also handle white ink and spot effects. UV ink layers mostly sit on the surface, so be careful with large stretches, vehicle recesses, or 90-degree corners. A beautiful finish does not necessarily mean it can withstand folding or bending

The challenge with vehicle graphics is curved surfaces, temperature changes, car washing, and removal. Materials usually prioritize stretchable PVC vehicle wrap films, air-release adhesives, and protective laminate. Door edges, areas beside side mirrors, and fuel-cap zones are installation stress points, so do not place keywords or QR codes in those positions

The challenges with window graphics are light transmission, reflection, cleaning, and viewing direction from indoors and outdoors. Common options include white-backed stickers, transparent stickers, frosted stickers, and one-way vision film. If transparent stickers are not treated with white ink or a white backing, indoor lighting and glass reflection will make the colors look faded. This is what many brands underestimate most often when producing window graphics for the first time

The challenges with general outdoor stickers are sun exposure, rain, dust, and scratching from hands. Flat signs can use more stable outdoor PVC stickers, while temporary events can use removable adhesive. If the sticker needs to be applied to rough walls, cement surfaces, or chalking paint, even a stronger adhesive may not produce good results. The problem is that many projects are described as short term at the beginning, but once installed, the site does not want to remove them. Three months later, they come back asking why the graphics faded or scratched. I have seen too many cases like this

Design teams should note that lamination changes how the image looks. Matte laminate slightly reduces sharpness, while gloss laminate increases reflection. If the artwork contains small text, fine lines, light gradients, or QR codes, it is best to confirm the finished viewing distance before finalizing files, such as 1 meter outside a storefront window, 3 meters behind the rear of a vehicle, or from across the street for signage

When sending outdoor inkjet stickers to print, I recommend writing the requirements in five sentences. This is much more effective than simply sending the file.
