These three have to be looked at together. Upgrading just one of them alone is rarely worth the money
・Aqueous inkjet: fits indoor or short-term display. For outdoor use it needs a protective layer and should avoid prolonged direct sun
・Eco-solvent inkjet: common on outdoor stickers and signage, with stable adhesion and weather performance on PVC-type materials
・UV ink: fits panels, signs, and some outdoor notices. The ink layer is hard and scratches better, but folding and material compatibility need checking first

Laminate: the transparent film layered on top of the print after production, used to keep UV, rain, scratches, and cleaning abrasion off the ink layer directly. Comes in gloss, matte, and other finishes

Outdoor jobs waste money most when they spend it on fine gradients, low-contrast backgrounds, and too much small text, and 5 meters away all that's left is a patch of color
・Protect the main headline first: the outdoor main headline has to read clear while pedestrians are moving. Type size, contrast, and whitespace come first
・Then protect the material: west sun, rain, car exterior, long-term fixed install, material and laminate can't be cut in the wrong place
・Special effects last: matte, gloss, and spot visual effects need to match the lighting. Looks great, but throws glare, and it costs you
・Reserve a replacement budget: short-term events can accept periodic replacement. Long-term notices need maintenance cost built into the total
The MS three-check framework also nudges designers to use subtraction on outdoor layouts. If one sign tries to carry the event name, brand story, promo terms, a QR code, an address, and five photos, on-site usually only the biggest chunk of type still does any work
On my own outdoor display jobs, I ask the client for one long shot and one close shot of the site. The long shot shows viewing distance and background clutter. The close shot shows whether the wall, glass, car body, or railing can actually take the install. These two photos usually carry more judgment than a string of material names
