How to Avoid Pitfalls When Sourcing Corporate Gifts with Laser Engraving
When sourcing laser-engraved nameplates or gifts for the first time, the biggest fear is getting stuck when the vendor says, 'We can't cut this.'
To get everyone on the same page, I usually walk clients through the three-step laser checklist we use at MINDS (MS):
・① Artwork Conversion: Outline all fonts, merge shapes into a single compound path, and clearly mark cut lines and engraving areas
・② Sample Proofing: Always run a partial test sample before mass production to check the actual thickness under the laser focal settings and ensure the burn marks look right
・③ Placement and Sizing: Verify the absolute position and size of the engraving on the physical product. This is especially true for curved tumblers or leather goods with seams, where a single millimeter off can look highly obvious
What to Do About Charred Edges on Laser-Cut Materials
